ABOUT ABOUT

Our next meetup is another special edition: our first ever Thanksgiving In The Pub. The Blind Pig is serving up an amazing meal deal just for us, which includes: a mixed green salad, oven roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, green beans, sweet potatoes, and a glass of wine (red or white). All that for $25 - including tax & gratuity. Plus our regular happy hour prices all night. So mark your calendar and reserve your spot for a very special Thanksgiving with your fellow skeptics - and without your crazy uncle who says Obama is the antichrist. Seriously, don't invite that dude.

Tickets: http://vfn.ticketleap.com/titp/

• This Thanksgiving meal deal must be pre-ordered by purchasing a ticket in advance.
• You may attend the event without purchasing the Thanksgiving meal deal. But you will be sad.
• BYOD: bring your own desert. Bake or make something sweet, and bring some to share.

The back area is reserved, as always w/ that giant table that seats 14 comfortably, w/ plenty of extra room, and an additional area we can spill out into. Independent sound volume, ATM, jukebox, and a view of the front. And darts.

Plenty of parking on the street out front and in surrounding blocks. The Septa El stop is Spring Garden, then walk up to 2nd, make a right, cross Brown St. and its immediately on your left, next to the 700 Club.

Skeptics In The Pub is a night of spirited discussions, laughs, & table games, held on selected Thursdays of each month, at a pub in Philadelphia. It's a chance for like-minded people to get together for drinks, discuss things skeptic-related in a friendly, informal setting, and meet others who may not share views, but are interested in the topics.

This is a meet-up and book club. Every other month, we vote on a new book to read on various topics of science and skepticism. Read at your own pace, or not at all. The point is to provide fuel for discussions.

Our current book, voted on by the group:
Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions
(Revised and Expanded Edition) by Dan Ariely
http://www.amazon.com/Predictably-Irrational-Revised-Expanded-Edition/dp/0061353248

"Why do our headaches persist after we take a one-cent aspirin but disappear when we take a fifty-cent aspirin? Why do we splurge on a lavish meal but cut coupons to save twenty-five cents on a can of soup? When it comes to making decisions in our lives, we think we're making smart, rational choices. But are we? In this newly revised and expanded edition of the groundbreaking New York Times bestseller, Dan Ariely refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. From drinking coffee to losing weight, from buying a car to choosing a romantic partner, we consistently overpay, underestimate, and procrastinate. Yet these misguided behaviors are neither random nor senseless. They're systematic and predictable—making us predictably irrational."

This event is free and open to the public. Please consider bringing a small donation to help us make this happen. We're planning to have guest speakers for future events, ranging from academics to comedians. We welcome any support, including ideas or suggestions.

"True skepticism has nothing to do with disbelief. It is about taking people's claims seriously and trying to understand them." - Susan Blackmore
